Google Business Profile Address Updates: Autocomplete and Moving Checklist

By Phoenix Local Marketing Pro · Guidance reviewed September 29, 2026

Use Google Business Profile address suggestions carefully, check the saved location and prepare for verification when your business moves.

What address autocomplete changes

The supplied Google newsletter announces suggested addresses in the Business Profile editor. As you enter the first address line, matching options appear for selection. The update is intended to reduce typing mistakes and make location editing easier. A suggestion is still something to check: selecting a result does not prove that the location is eligible for your business or that every field is correct.

Check the address before saving

Open Edit profile, then Location, and review the address entry. If suggestions appear, choose the result that matches your actual business location. Check the street number, street name, city, postal code and any applicable suite information. Do not select a nearby building because its label looks more familiar. Keep a note of the old and new details so a colleague can verify what changed.

Storefront and service-area businesses need different decisions

Google’s editing guidance says businesses that do not meet customers at their address can keep it from public display. It also says a verified business that moves to a new address must verify again. Before changing a Phoenix home-based service business, separate the address used for its real location from the places it serves. Do not publish a home address merely to make the profile look more established.

Treat a move as a coordinated update

Our suggested workflow is to list every customer-facing place that needs attention: website contact details, directions, appointment messages and relevant business listings. Assign someone to each update and record completion. If customers have upcoming appointments, explain where they should go. The purpose is to avoid conflicting directions, not to change a large number of fields as a ranking tactic.

Review the result from a customer’s perspective

After the change is processed, check the information visible to a customer and the location pin. Think through an arrival: would a first-time visitor know the correct entrance or unit? If something is wrong, document the discrepancy and correct the relevant field. Google notes that editing interfaces can differ by device, so the labels on your screen may not exactly match a newsletter screenshot.

When an address change becomes a support issue

Keep screenshots of the message shown and a timeline of the change. A verification prompt needs a different response from an explicit suspension. Avoid creating a second profile as a quick substitute for resolving the original issue. For an actual suspension, start with our reinstatement assistance. For a request to verify, prepare for the method Google offers rather than assuming autocomplete completes verification.
